Sometimes the things you don’t see are as evocative as the ones in front of you. In this case, the footprints of my dog, Ray. As he finds it harder to walk, I have become, more and more, his personal Stairmaster. At 60 pounds, that’s a good workout, and this morning in particular, near dislocation of my right elbow at an icy Cherry Beach while trying to lift him into his dog cart.

This image, taken earlier this winter, evokes thoughts of him when he was more mobile and independent as well as those to do with his increased dependence on me now. Dependence which has decreased as he gets used to the increased mobility that dog cart has finally given him.
