This past Wednesday, I photographed Brett Polegato, baritone, performing at the Four Seasons Centre as part of the Canadian Opera Company’s Free Concert Series. These are my selections from this performance., including one of Liz Upchurch, Head of the Ensemble Studio at the Canadian Opera Company.

Mr. Polegato has great presence and a terrific voice, which made this an enjoyable session for me, though it’s another one of these where I’m concerned about shutter noise. I raised this with one performer a little while ago, and her response was something along the lines of “Don’t worry, we’re used to it.” Come to think of it, given the number of cellphones that go off, ambulances that drive by, and their performers’ depth of experience, I suppose shutter noise is the least of their worries.

At this time of year the sun is at exactly the worst angle for shooting in this space, unless the blinds are down, which they were at this performance. They provide an attractive soft white backdrop. As usual I’ve also uploaded the whole load here.
