Here is a selection of photos I made during Monday night’s dress rehearsal of Roberto Devereux for The Canadian Opera Company. I found this a challenge to shoot for two reasons:

  • A big stage – the set is the full width, floor to ceiling. It’s lovely, but hard to capture it all and give enough detail to the cast – hence, a number of panoramic images in this set. A lot of the closer images were made with a 70-200 lens sporting a 1.7 teleconverter. The monopod helped significantly.
  • It’s good, really really good. I had to remind myself to make pictures. The cast’s  singing and acting are wonderful, as is the orchestra’s performance.
