Here are selected images from Peggy Baker‘s performance at the Richard Bradshaw Amphitheatre, as part of the Canadian Opera Company’s  free concert series. I’d specifically asked to shoot this quite a while ago. I enjoy modern dance and had a subscription to Premiere Dance Theatre for years.

Absolutely terrific performance and really, the perfect location. The theme was the power of gesture, and it was evident throughout her performance. Not to mention her energy, humour, and engagement with her audience.

I used a Canon G11 for most of the images during this performance – all those taken straight on. The music was quite quiet, and the shutter on the Nikon D300 would have carried throughout the space. When I moved offside and farther away, I used the Nikon, with an 18-200 mm lens, with the exception of the chair images, where I used a 50mm lens. All images were processed in Lightroom. Shutter priority on both cameras.

You can see all the images I sent to the COC here, on the last screen of the gallery.

2 Responses to Peggy Baker at the COC Free Concert Series – My picks

  1. Thanks for your kind comments, Carol, sorry for my late reply. This event was a particular pleasure to shoot, and resulted, this past week, in a landscape image from the same vantage point!

  2. I was at that event and noticed the “lucky photographer” who got to take pics of Ms. Baker. Imagine my surprise when one of my pilates clients sent me this link. I had been telling her about the event and turns out she knows you somehow. I am also a budding photographer with a new DSLR, which I hope to uncover the secret to using tomorrow in my first camera course. Small world – I’ve done movement courses with Peggy Baker, teach pilates to your friend and am trying to learn photography.
Love the pics by the way. So glad there is a way to experience this day again and again.
